Alstom Bharat Forge (now GE Power Systems India Pvt. Ltd.) uses highly flammable hydrogen gas regularly for testing of gigantic motors used in turbines, at Sanand in Gujarat. This mandates using hydraulic pressure to seal the joints of a highly flammable gas passage. This sealing arrangement is used to prevent gas leaks and explosions, which could be disastrous. Constant hydraulic pressure on the sealing joints keeps them intact and ensures safety at all times. It is imperative that the oil used for the sealing arrangement be as clean as at least NAS 5 level.

The filtration process of the 5000-litre oil tank used to take about two to three days with their existing system to achieve the cleanliness level of NAS 5. The requirement was to reduce the time taken to the bare minimum possible. Panchsheel built a system that could clean the entire tank up to the NAS 4 level in just five to six hours, saving days of the waiting period, several man-hours for the company, and taking the oil’s cleanliness to the next level.
